I used the Precision Xtra meter for several years. I liked it because it was very flat and was easy to carry. It is a fairly large meter, but the flatness allowed it to fit easily into my purse. I also liked the fact that the strips were individually wrapped so that when I took it with me I only needed to take a few strips which did not take up much space. I liked the large readout. This meter took a fairly small amount of blood, but there are meters out there that take less. I liked the end fill method of getting blood on the test strip. However if you did not get enough blood, you had very little time to add more blood. I often had to dispose of these strips because they no longer worked which was wasteful. I found this meter very reliable. I also liked the fact that the result appeared in 5 seconds. This meter had the advantage of being able to test both blood sugar and keytones.
This machine is great because it needs very little blood..very little. It's also easy to read with a large screen. I find it to be too big for me though, I don't take it with me because of it's size.
I like the Precision Xtra mostly because of the intuitive layout of the buttons. It was easy to use right out of the box.
It also allows you to take blood from multiple sites which lessens the fingertip pain. Also, it is very easy to get the blood on the test strip. In some other machines i've owned the drop had to be exactly centered or the test was invalid.
Lastly, the machiine can detect ketones using the same strips that are used for monitoring your sugar. I've never had a problem with ketones, but if you do this is a great feature.
