Dr. William Tamborlane: Insulin Pump Pioneer
William V. Tamborlane, MD, earned his medical degree from Georgetown University in 1972 and currently works in the department of pediatrics at Yale University School of Medicine and is director of the Yale Children’s Diabetes Program. He holds and has held several leadership positions within the American Diabetes Association. He is a member of several professional societies and editorial boards and has authored more than 450 articles in the areas of diabetes management, treatment, and research. His research efforts include the invention of insulin pump therapy in the 1970s and current work on the development of an artificial pancreas or continuous blood glucose monitoring system. Dr. Tamborlane has received numerous awards for his work, including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Mary Tyler Moore and S. Robert Levine, MD Excellence in Clinical Research Award and the foundation’s CT Hall of Merit.

Dr. Denise Faustman: Groundbreaking Type 1 Research
Dr. Faustman has spent the last decade researching the nature of the molecular defect in T-cells that results in the development of autoimmunity. This work led her to discover a novel way to treat diabetic mice, accomplishing for the first time ever, the permanent reversal of established diabetes.

Dr. David M. Nathan: Beating Diabetes through Research
Dr. David M. Nathan is Director of the General Clinical Research Center and of the Diabetes Center at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. His research has focused on treating Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in ways that prevent long-term complications.

Susan Mendez-Eastman, RN: New Advances in Wound Therapy
Susan Mendez-Eastman is certified in both wound care and plastic surgical nursing. She has served four years as a Surgical First Assistant at Omaha's Plastic Surgical Center, and is a research nurse for the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing.
