Doris - the link should work for Dan Hill now - I can't post them here in the forum as easily as I can when I post a link into the blogs we write here at Diabetes1. Here's the link for the "song" you mention above - complete with words .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVf940pO5ME

BTW, don't apologise for not knowing Dan is Canadian (born in Toronto). His parents were American - they'd "escaped" to Canada during the McCarthy / racism years (his parents were an interracial - gasp - thank goodness times have changed now).

Anyway, there are many Canadians living incognito in your country - we are slowly taking over <lol>.

Sugar free means using sugar alcohol which is worse than sugar! As the Joslin put it so many years ago, it still raises your blood sugar, but you don't know when or how much. Add, gastrointestinal problems and I'd rather eat a 3 carb piece of Lindt Dark Chocolate - at least that has antioxident qualities.

FYI - The link doesn't want to work. I didn't even know Dan Hill was a Canadian. Sorry 'bout that.

Yes, Dan Hill has been a Type 2 diabetic for past 16 years. Basically, his father and grand father all died of complications of diabetes - sad to say. Dan is determined to not go the same route as his family has gone! Can you blame him? He is quite the diabetic advocate here in Canada as well - not afraid to tell people that he has diabetes (times have changed).

It's sugar free candy Doris!!!!!! Come on - can I not tempt you with just one tooth yanking wine gum when I get my bag in the post???? <lol>

And we aren't old Doris - we are young at heart!!

OK, now I feel really old .... "Sometimes when we touch, the honesty's too much ..." Gosh, that song came out at least during the decade I was diagnosed. Who knew he was a diabetic? Not me.

Can't say I'm interested in a candy offer (ANNA!!!) but I'll read the article.

I was reading my Summer 2009 Diabetes Dialogue this morning (great article in there on Dan Hill- http://danhill.com/ - an award winning singer-songwriter reflects on his life, the secret his father kept from the public, and how openly sharing that secret helped him change his life).

Anyway, there was an ad in the magazine from a company called Sweet Nothings (no sugar added candy) with a link for getting a free bag of candy. I'm game for that. I went to the website - and filled out a brief survey of my "sweet desires" - and viola - should be getting a coupon for some candies (I clicked on the wine gums - hopefully my teeth don't get yanked out of their sockets ).

I don't know if this offer is available only to Canadian residents - but give it a go ....
